A neighbourhood room with a prairie pulse

Built around the kind of meal that makes people stay.

Ember & Grain is a fictional Edmonton restaurant imagined as a modern gathering place: confident but never stiff, refined but never precious. The menu begins with Alberta ingredients and asks what fire, fermentation, grain, and patience can bring forward.

Expect plates that feel grounded in the Prairies — smoked roots, barley risotto, hearth-roasted meats, fresh cheeses, sourdough, preserves, and herbs — served in a room with low light, generous tables, and the hum of a good night out.

Fire as flavour

Char, smoke, ember heat, and roasted edges shape the menu without overpowering the ingredients.

Season first

Dishes move with Alberta’s seasons — bright and green, smoky and golden, deep and cellar-warm.

Alberta ingredients, ember heat

Rooted in the Prairies. Finished by the flame.

Ember & Grain’s kitchen is guided by what grows, grazes, ferments, and stores beautifully here. The grill is not a gimmick — it is a seasoning, a texture, and a way to reveal depth.

The hearth brings contrast.

Leeks blister, carrots deepen, beef fat smokes, bread edges crackle, and sauces take on a darker, more savoury backbone.

Grain is more than bread.

Barley, rye, oats, sourdough, malt, and toasted crumbs appear across the menu as comfort, structure, and quiet prairie identity.

The cellar matters.

Pickles, preserves, ferments, cured things, and winter roots keep the kitchen expressive long after the first frost arrives.

The dining room

Low light, open flame, full glasses, unhurried conversation.

The room is intimate without being hushed: warm cream walls, dark wood, amber light, an open-kitchen glow, and a soundtrack that lets the table lead. Come for a quick plate at the bar or settle in for the evening.
